In accordance with TFTM's mission, we present occasional accoustic music and dance performances and associated workshops representing diverse traditions, and providing exposure for possibly lesser-known traditions or performers. These events are small to midsized shows (house concerts through about 200 seats). In particular, our events are likely to fall in the following genres: - Local (Tucson/So. Arizona) Traditions: Hispanic, Native American I don't know about you, but I don't even bother going to Centennial Hall for concerts anymore. I can get a lot more from a cd than I can through my binoculars. The TFTM House Concerts are just the opposite, and I had the pleasure of going to two of them this fall. Jeff Thorn and W.B. Reid are old friends from the Seattle music community and they created an evening of great tunes and songs that had us all smiling and tapping our toes. It was wonderful to have time to appreciate Jeff's playing, and it made me want concerts featuring some of our other local musicians. I also got to go to John Roberts' concert, where I sat in the front row and got the full effect of his wonderful ballads and ditties, and rich delivery. Both evenings were really special. Sitting only a few feet away from the artists and hearing the unamplified music filling the space really brings the meaning of traditional music into focus. During the intermission and afterwards there is plenty of time to talk to the musicians and to get to know other like-minded TFTMers. As I sat in these concerts, I felt like I was just hanging out in the living room with friends, enjoying great music. Oh I guess I was, and you can too, don't miss the next one. -- Claire Zucker
