The rich musical heritage of Ireland, Scotland and England has spread throughout the world as Celtic music when the resulting tunes are neither seen as Celtic nor as European. From the characteristic fiddling style of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to the tunes of Newfoundland and the bayou country of Louisiana. The musical roots of the Blue Ridge country of Tennessee and the Contra Bands of New England.

TFTM puts on three Contra Dances a month on the First, Third and Fourth Saturdays as well as the Fifth Saturday about four times a year. We use the talents of a number of local and regional bands and callers. In general, we dance in the beautiful social hall at the First United Methodist Church just south of the main gate of the University of Arizona at University and Park Avenue. When the hall is not available due to Church conflicts, we will always post the alternate location on these pages.

In addition to the dances, we promote the development of musical talents to carry on the banner of Traditional Music. We have a number of jam sessions for players of varying levels of talent to learn from others. Once a month we have a dance with the Open Band, a collection of musicians who get together to play for a dance and have a great time. We usually have a few good melody players sit in and everyone else can play along and learn the tricks and techniques of playing for dancers.
